This amount will not be refunded. You are then required to place a deposit. This amount varies from residence to residence. If your application is rejected for any reason then this amount is refunded back to you, but you may not get the amount immediately.

If your application is approved, you may be required to also provide a separate security deposit. This will also vary from the apartment to apartment. Nowadays, they are asking for something called as a "safety deposit" which is judged on your credit score.
